Google Search Basics. All Internet search engines use Boolean logic and its operators to produce search results. Using Boolean operators helps focus the search and vastly reduces the number of non-specific or irrelevant hits. Google also relies on proximity of terms, number of times a term appears in the record, and word order as part of its results algorithm. The following are examples of how Boolean operators can be used in Google as well as other useful search tips.
