PubMed Power Searching with Search Field Tags

Print Page Print Page

Do you routinely search PubMed but feel frustrated by your results? Would you like to be more precise in finding articles by a specific author or by a grant number or by a substance name?

Then you need to know how to search by field tags. Search Field tags are 2-4 letter codes that search specific items within PubMed. For example, if you want to find articles by James D. Watson (co-discoverer of DNA) in PubMed, simply type the author name with the appropriate field tag in the search box:

watson jd [au]
