Finding Meeting Abstracts Published by Health Sciences Associations

Alphabetical list of selected professional associations,
including the where to find print and electronic versions
of the abstracts from their annual meetings.

Abstracts of presentations and posters presented at the annual meetings of scientific societies may be hard if not impossible to locate. Print versions may be:

  • handed out to conference attendees
  • included in the association's journal
  • printed in a supplement to the association's journal
  • published as a separate serial
  • none or more than one of the above

It may be possible to find a citation to the journal issue that contains meeting abstracts. The following databases index conference proceedings:

  • BA/BIOSIS (limit search to publication type "meeting document")
  • CancerLit (limit search to publication type "congresses" or "meeting abstracts")
  • CINAHL (limit search to publication type "proceedings" or "overall")
  • Current Contents (limit search to publication type "meeting abstracts")
  • Medline (limit search to publication type "congresses" or "overall")

Electronic versions of the meeting abstracts are less commonly available. They may appear either permanently or transiently on the association's Web site, or on the Web site of a third party, which may have complete or summary information. Discs or CD-ROM's containing the abstracts may be distributed to those who attend the conference.
