From May-December 2007, the Bio-Medical Library offered 24/7 access to a portion of the Library's 2nd floor, as part of a pilot project offered with support from the Dean of the Medical School.

The pilot found that students took advantage of late-night hours and see it as a convenient study space. On one night in October, for example, there were 31 students in the library after the regular closing time of 11:00pm.  Comments from students have been overwhelmingly positive.

Beginning January 22, the Bio-Medical Library will remain open to those showing a U Card until 3:00 a.m. every night in Fall and Spring semesters, and 24/7 during finals periods, with the exception of University holidays.  The open area includes the public computers, study tables, small group study rooms, casual seating near the entrance, and the restrooms.  No library services are available during extended hours, and there is no access to the print journal and book collections.
