BMJ Archival Access--Update

We recently posted that BMJ announced it is releasing the full back archive of all 23 BMJ journals, but would require user registration to access content older than one year.  We have just learned that BMJ implemented the policy incorrectly, resulting in users being prompted for registration in error.  BMJ reports that the problem has been corrected, and that users can now access content via IP authentication as usual, without additional registration.  If you have questions, please contact the Reference Desk (medref@umn.edu or 612-626-3260).  We apologize for the confusion.

The text of our previous message is listed below (please disregard):

(BMJ recently announced that it will be releasing the full back archive of all 23 BMJ journals, back to volume 1.  However, BMJ will require users to register to access this content.  Users will not be able to access this older content via IP authentication as is the case with many other journals to which the University Libraries subscribe; instead, they will be routed to a sign-in page when trying to access content older than 12 months.  Users will still be able to access content published within the most recent 12 months as normal via IP authentication, with no additional registration required.

The first title to undergo this change is Journal of Clinical Pathology, which changed on April 2.)

For more information, see BMJ’s notice (http://journals.bmj.com/lrc/accesspolicy.dtl) or contact the Reference Desk (612-626-3260 or medref@umn.edu).
