The monograph collection, containing over 150,000 print volumes, is located on the fourth level of the library. Older titles (1921-ca.1980) are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal classification system, and newer titles are organized under the National Library of Medicine classification system. Materials of all formats (books, videos, computer disks, microfilm) are shelved with the monograph collection.
The library also purchases a large number of electronic/online texts. If a title is available electronically, a link reading "Internet Resource Online Resource" will be included in the MNCAT catalog record.

The journal collection of over 280,000 print volumes is shelved alphabetically by title on levels three (A-F) and two (G-Z). Titles are shelved alphabetically considering each word in the title (except articles at the beginning of the title); for example, Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare comes before Journal of the American Academy of Audiology. The library currently subscribes to approximately 1,700 health and biological science journal titles; the total number of print journal titles in the library exceeds 11,000. Journal backfiles are bound and maintained in the collection.
The Library also currently subscribes to over 1000 electronic journal titles. If a title is available electronically, it is included in the E-journals list, and the MNCAT record will include a link to the journal content reading "Internet Resource Online Resource."

Collections held at the Circulation and Reserve Desk on the second floor support the coursework of health sciences students and staff. Most materials held in Circulation and Reserve directly reflect currently offered classes or programs. To ensure availability to the largest possible number of users, materials in this area have limited loan periods. The Circulation and Reserve Desk is located on west end of the second floor, adjacent to the library entrance. Materials held on reserve can be searched in the UMTC Course Reserve Catalog.
Instructors or in-service trainers may request that materials required for specific courses or programs be placed on reserve. Procedures for requesting materials to be placed on reserve are available at our Reserves Page
A collection of standard texts in the health sciences disciplines are maintained at the Circulation and Reserve Desk. The location of these materials is displayed in MNCAT as "Perm Reserve (2nd Floor Circ Desk)". Materials in this collection may not leave the library and must be signed out at the desk.
Anatomical models owned by the Bio-Medical Library are housed in the Circulation and Reserve area. The Circulation and Reserve Desk also checks out computers for curriculum-related software programs and related purposes, slide/tape carrels, video players, and other equipment for materials in non-print formats.
