Guide Page Code Snippets |
"Code Snippets" are meant to provide educational technologists, faculty, students and others the ability to relatively easily embed library pages (certain guides only for now) into other websites. Many guide pages, including course guides, at the Health Science Libraries now feature "code snippets" at the bottom the page. When copied and pasted into a web page (ex a blog post), these code snippets will fetch and display the corresponding library page. The service requires that Javascript be enabled on end users' browsers for the guide to appear, but a link is also offered within the snippet for users without Javascript. This link leads back to a standard HTML page.
You may have noticed this kind of feature in other websites, such as YouTube, which offer end users the ability to place context directly into the context of their own sites. Our "Code Snippets" are, for the moment, a "Beta" service and therefore subject to some changes. After an initial pilot period where system performance will be monitored, we will release the service as "officially supported." Please consider this as you make design decisions.
If you wish to place a library guide page in WebCT, simply go to your "Build" tab, click on "Create Content File" and make a new file. Paste this code snippet into the content area there (hint: use Control-A to get the entire snippet), make sure you have "Use HTML" checked under your submission form, and select "Save." Now go to your student view and view the document.
